In pursuing spiritual growth, we often overlook the significance of our mindset towards material wealth or increase in general. But can we experience the fullness of God’s blessings without aligning our mindset with His principles of abundance? The Bible clearly states that the level of external Prosperity we experience is subject to the level of our Mind, Will and Emotions, which align with what God says about this topic. God wants you to prosper. Prosper means; “to help on the road or succeed in reaching”. Let’s explore the importance of cultivating a prosperous mindset in the realm of finances, resources and increases in our lives.
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.” – 3 John 1:2 NKJV
Understanding God’s Perspective on Material Increase:
The Scriptures are abounding with teachings on material wealth, highlighting its importance in our lives. While money doesn’t guarantee happiness, it serves as a tool for progression in this world, providing for our basic needs, facilitating education, and creating opportunities. Hence, it’s vital to acknowledge the significance of money without falling into the trap of loving it above all else.
Ecclesiastes 10:19 emphasises the practical utility of money, stating that it answers everything. While it doesn’t bring ultimate fulfilment, money plays a crucial role in addressing our fundamental needs and enabling progress.
“A feast is made for laughter, And wine makes merry; But money answers everything.” Ecclesiastes 10:19
Ecclesiastes 7:12 underscores the parallel between wisdom and money as defences in life. Both wisdom and material resources provide protection and sustenance, contributing to a fulfilling existence.
“For wisdom is a defence as money is a defence, But the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.” Ecclesiastes 7:12
Reflecting on God’s promises to Abraham in Genesis 12:1-3, we witness a divine covenant that includes material blessings. God pledges to make Abraham’s name great, bless him abundantly, and make him a source of blessing to others. This covenant extends beyond spiritual blessings to material prosperity, as evident in Abraham’s vast wealth.
“Now the LORD had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you, And in you, all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-3 (NKJV)
Scriptural Examples of Kingdom Increase:
The lives of biblical figures like Abram (later known as Abraham) and Job exemplify the principle of Kingdom Increase. Abram’s obedience to God’s commands led to divine favour and material prosperity, as seen in Genesis 13:2, where he possessed extensive livestock and wealth.
“Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold.” Genesis 13:2 (NKJV)
Job, renowned for his integrity and faithfulness, enjoyed unparalleled prosperity before facing severe trials. Despite losing everything, Job remained steadfast in his faith, ultimately experiencing the double restoration of his wealth and blessings.
“There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil. And seven sons and three daughters were born to him. Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East.” Job 1:1-3
Jobs estimated wealth was in the region of equivalent to $37 million. Job lost everything, and then God restored it all and doubled it. God Restored the Double, which would have equated in today’s terms to around an estimated $74 million. God is as interested in the material realm as in your spiritual well-being.
“And the LORD restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed, the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.” Job 42:10 (NKJV)
Cultivating a Prosperous Mindset:
To experience Kingdom Increase, we must adopt an abundant mindset rooted in God’s promises and principles. This mindset transcends mere materialism and encompasses gratitude, optimism, generosity, resilience, and big-picture thinking.
Deuteronomy 8:1, 17-18 emphasises God’s role in empowering His people to acquire wealth or increase, establishing a covenant of prosperity. It reminds us that true wealth and abundance come from God and should be acknowledged as such, leading to a mindset of humility and gratitude. Multiplication is clearly a byproduct of aligning and observing what scripture tells us. God is interested in our success, especially when we are first interested in seeking, advancing, and manifesting His Kingdom on earth.
“Every commandment which I command you today you must be careful to observe, that you may live and multiply, and go in and possess the land of which the LORD swore to your fathers. “ Deuteronomy 8:1
“Then you say in your heart, ”My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth. And you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.” Deuteronomy 8:17-18
NLT – “…gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfil the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath. “
Genesis 12:1-3 illustrates God’s desire to bless His children abundantly, spiritually and materially. It invites us to trust in God’s provision and recognise His sovereignty over all aspects of our lives, including finances.
Conclusion:
As we embark on a journey of Kingdom Increase, let’s cultivate a prosperous mindset that aligns with God’s Word and promises. By acknowledging the importance of money while prioritising spiritual growth and Kingdom advancement, we can experience true abundance in every area of life. Let us embrace God’s principles of prosperity and walk confidently in the assurance of His blessings.
