Modelling the Forerunners: The Value of Heritage in the Faith

On April 25th, 1915, Australian and New Zealand soldiers, known as Anzacs, embarked on a mission to capture the Gallipoli peninsula, marking a significant chapter in history. Over 8,000 Australian soldiers lost their lives, and today, Anzac Day commemorates their sacrifice, embodying values such as courage, mateship, sacrifice, and endurance.

Honouring Dr. Savelle: A Spiritual Father in the Faith

On April 15th, 2024, Dr Jerry Savelle graduated to glory, leaving a rich heritage of teaching people how to live in God’s blessing, experience His favour, and become winners in the game of life. Born again on February 11th, 1969, Dr. Savelle faithfully served the Lord for 55 years, preaching the gospel worldwide, establishing churches and Bible schools, and authoring over 70 books. His life testified to the transformative power of faith and grace, inspiring countless individuals to pursue God’s purpose with passion and dedication. As the founder of Chariots of Light Christian Motorcycles, Dr. Savelle’s passion for God, souls, and motorcycles exemplified his commitment to serving others and spreading the love of Christ.

“Faithfulness is a decision based on the intent of the heart, not circumstantial.” This is an echo of Dr. Savelle’s messages, reminding us of the importance of steadfast commitment to God’s calling.

Timothy’s Heritage: Timothy is a bi-product of those before him

In 2 Timothy 1:3-5, Apostle Paul reflects on Timothy’s genuine faith, nurtured by his grandmother Lois, his mother Eunice, and Apostle Paul himself. This passage underscores the significance of spiritual heritage in shaping one’s faith journey, emphasising the role of mentors and spiritual fathers in passing down the torch of faith. It should also highlight that the protege has a part in positioning themselves to receive such impartation.

Our Lessons from Joshua: A Forerunner in Faith

Drawing parallels between Joshua’s leadership and Dr. Savelle’s legacy, we glean insights into the keys to spiritual promotion and breakthrough. Joshua’s unwavering faithfulness, servanthood, loyalty, credibility, and courage propelled him into leadership and secured the inheritance for God’s people. Likewise, Dr. Savelle’s life exemplified these qualities, inspiring others to walk in their divine inheritance and serve the Lord wholeheartedly.

“Now therefore, fear the LORD, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD! And if it seems evil to you to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” – Joshua 24:14-15

Keys to Modelling Forerunners: Fathers in the Faith

Reflecting on Numbers 32:10-12, Exodus 24:13, Joshua 11:15, Exodus 33:11, and Deuteronomy 34:9, we uncover essential keys to modelling our spiritual forerunners. Faithfulness, servanthood, loyalty, credibility, and courage are foundational principles that pave the way for spiritual growth and inheritance.

Key 1: Faithfulness

“So the LORD’s anger was aroused on that day, and He swore an oath, saying, ‘Surely none of the men who came up from Egypt, from twenty years old and above, shall see the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, because they have not wholly followed Me, except Caleb the son of Jephunneh, the Kenizzite, and Joshua the son of Nun, for they have wholly followed the LORD.” Numbers 32:10-12

Key 2: Servanthood

“So Moses arose with his assistant Joshua, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.” – Exodus 24:13

“As the LORD had commanded Moses His servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all that the LORD had commanded Moses.” – Joshua 11:15

Key 3: Loyalty

:So the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.” – Exodus 33:11

Key 4: Credibility

“Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands on him; so the children of Israel heeded him, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses.” Deuteronomy 34:9

Key 5: Courage

And they returned from spying out the land after forty days. Now they departed and came back to Moses and Aaron and all the congregation of the children of Israel in the Wilderness of Paran, at Kadesh; they brought back word to them and to all the congregation, and showed them the fruit of the land. Then they told him, and said: “We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the South; the Hittites, the Jebusites, and the Amorites dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanites dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan.” Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.” Numbers 13:25-30

Encouragement for the Journey: Stay in Faith

As we navigate life’s challenges, Dr. Savelle’s final word of the year concerning “Progressing, Advancing, Experiencing promotion and Seeing your highest expectations fulfilled” echo a call to stay in faith, remain focused on God’s promises, and guard our hearts against doubt, fear, and the schemes of the enemy. Hebrews 6:11-12 urges us to imitate the faith and patience of those who inherit God’s promises, embodying the legacy of faith and bringing hope to the world.

“And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.” – Hebrews 6:11-12 NKJV

Conclusion: Embracing the Legacy of Faith

In conclusion, Dr. Savelle’s heritage of faith invites us to leave a godly legacy, making overcomers of all nations through faith, love, and hope. As we progress, advance, and experience promotion in our spiritual journey, let us stay rooted in faith, trust in God’s promises, and refuse to be swayed by doubt or fear. In doing so, we honour our spiritual fathers, emulate their faithfulness, and pave the way for future generations to walk in the fullness of God’s blessings.
